Haroon Brown gets his shot

When you think of fullbacks you don't think of fasting.

But that's what Terps freshman fullback Haroon Brown did last month during Ramadan, the Muslim holy month.

Brown, who is expected to get his first game action as the starter this week against Clemson following the hand injury to starter Cory Jackson, is a practicing Muslim and is used to fasting despite the rigors of being a major college football player.

He fasted all day for a month, only eating after sundown. He dropped some 10 pounds in the process but it did not hamper his football progress, moving to No. 2 behind the sophomore standout Jackson.
Brown said that Haroon is Arabic for 'Aaron.'

"It's just eat at night and fast during the day. I am used to it," Brown said. "As long as the sun is up I don't eat. I have been doing this since I was eight years old so it's not a big deal."
