For the second time this season, the Terps have lost their starting quarterback for the remainder of the season.

Maryland head coach DJ Durkin announced during his weekly Tuesday press conference that true freshman Kasim Hill will miss the rest of the season after suffering an injury to his right knee in the first quarter of the Terps' loss to UCF.

"Kasim suffered a torn ACL and he'll be getting surgery here sometime soon," said Durkin. "Don't have a date set yet. We're waiting for the swelling to go down and make sure we handle that the right way."

Hill replaced Tyrrell Pigrome after he suffered a season-ending injury in the Terps' season opener, helping lead the team to a win over then-nationally ranked Texas on the road.

Hill then received his first career start the following week against Towson, completing 13-of-16 pass attempts for 163 yards and two touchdowns through the air, while also rushing for another 41 yards.

In his second career start, Hill completed his only two pass attempts against UCF before being replaced by sophomore Max Bortenschlager.

"I really feel for Kasim," Durkin said. "Not many kids have higher character than that guy and he worked really hard. I thought he performed really well for this team. It was just a tough play, he was competing, got spun around, got hit and obviously he went out of the game. He'll bounce back, he's got a great future in footall both here and beyond."

The Terps are now left with just two scholarship quarterbacks available for their Big Ten opener at Minnesota in Bortenschlager and junior transfer Caleb Henderson.

Henderson himself is easing himself back into the rotation after suffering a foot injury during spring ball.

If this all seems too familiar to Terp fans, that's likely because it is. With a new starter on Saturday at Minnesota, this will mark the third year in a row and fourth time in six years that Maryland will start at least three quarterbacks during the season.
