Spartans visit Youngstown tackle

Despite having three offensive linemen already committed, Michigan State seems to be looking to add one more lineman to its 2010 recruiting class, and the Spartans have their eyes on 6-7, 310-pound Eric Franklin of Youngstown (Ohio) Cardinal Mooney.

Sunday night, caught with Franklin, rated a three-star offensive tackle, and he updated that the Spartans, represented by head coach Mark Dantonio and his primary recruiter, defensive coordinator Pat Narduzzi, paid him a visit the first week of December.

"It was the week going into our state (championship) game, the Tuesday," Franklin shared. "They came in the school, they came and watched me practice a little bit and then Coach D. did a house visit, so they came to my house and met with my mom and talked with my mom and my grandparents to give them some insight on the school and stuff like that, and they want to get me up on an official visit."

But as his recruitment stands now, Franklin is sticking with an open approach and waiting for anymore possible attention.

Franklin's recruitment should really heat up in January, when he plans to take his official visit to MSU and other schools.

"I might be going to Purdue," Franklin said of other visits. "I haven't set a date with them yet either, but I know they want me to come up sometime in January, too, so I don't l know."

Aside from MSU and Purdue, Franklin has offers are from Akron, Bowling Green, Indiana, Kansas, Pittsburgh and Toledo, which gives him several official visit options. But his visit schedule is still a work in progress, and he's uncertain if he will take all five.

"I haven't even got that far yet. If push comes to shove, I'll cram them in," Franklin said of taking all of his visits before signing day. "But if I only get a couple, that's fine with me, too. Hopefully I'll have my decision before signing day, but if not, I'll just finish taking my officials." ranks Franklin the No. 78 offensive tackle - No. 34 prospect in the state of Ohio - in the Class of 2010. If Franklin commits to MSU, it would still give the Spartans an all-Buckeye State offensive line class, as he would join commitments Skyler Schofner (Sunbury Big Walnut), Travis Jackson (Columbus DeSales) and Michael Dennis (Carey).
