Devontre Parnell hopes to see Raleigh soon

Four-star cornerback Devontre Parnell has not seen NC State's campus yet, but he hopes to change that in the near future. The Wolfpack have been hot on the athletic defensive back's trail for a while and coach Jim Bridge extended an offer to the rising-senior on a visit to Winnsboro (S.C.) Fairfield Central High.

"He's a cool dude," Parnell said of his recruiter from the Pack. "I talked to him and he offered me right on the spot. He came by my school and talked to my coach, met me and got my transcripts. I talked to him for a minute and then he offered me.

"I have not been up to their campus yet but hopefully I'll get up there this summer, I want to get up there soon for a visit."

The 5-foot-11, 170-pounder recorded 42 tackles and 15 pass breakups as a junior while also returning an interception and fumble for touchdowns. On special teams, he also returned a pair of punts and a kickoff for six. A host of colleges have taken notice.

"Right now, I've got eight division I offers," he said. "I don't have any favorites, [I'm] still looking at everybody. The Wolfpack is close, they are right here in North Carolina and close to home so hopefully I'll get up there for a visit soon."

Other tenders have come from schools such as Illinois, Kentucky, Vanderbilt Louisville, Wake Forest and East Carolina while programs such as Auburn, Clemson, Georgia Tech, LSU, Miami, Michigan and South Carolina have shown interest. When asked if he is hoping to hear more from anybody, Parnell signed out one ACC squad.

"I like Virginia Tech, but they haven't offered yet," he said. "They've been on me hard, they came by school and I talked to their coaches a little so hopefully I'll get an offer from them soon."

Parnell recently impressed observers at the Nike Camp in Durham, N.C. although he was battling injuries and admitted he was not one hundred percent. For now, though, he's focusing on getting healthy and gaining some weight.

"I'm trying to get in the weight room, gain more weight," Parnell said. "I'm about 170 right now, I'm trying to get to 175-180. That's what I'm working on."
