Upon closer examination, Pt. 2

AUBURN -- I still love Sundays in January.

I penned a story last week that explained how my affinity for recruiting has grown considerably during the past few years. There was a time when I looked down on people who kept up with prep prospects, but those days are over.

It's fun to assess players, from both a physical and psychological standpoint, and try to determine which guys have the best chance to be great in college and beyond.

It's actually one of the most enjoyable things I do with my professional life.

January Sundays give me a chance to take a final look at Class of 2013 prospects. With this column, I pass along my thoughts about these players with an eye on their personalities and motivations.

So let's take a look at some of the guys who were in town last weekend:

Wilson Bell is everything I expected. Offensive linemen are an unusual breed; they often look quite intimidating yet they're often the most cerebral guys on the roster. Bell is no exception. He's 6-foot-4 and 295-ish pounds -- and looks unusually fit. There's no excess flab on this guy. Bell is a sharp kid and I thought his discussion about choosing a school where he's needed rather than simply recruited was an interesting point. He's down to Florida State and Auburn. I think he's all Auburn.<
