TheOldCoach Performance Camp Recap

An impressive group of athletes descended upon McKinney High School on Saturday morning for THEOLDCOACH PERFORMANCE CAMP. Geno Pierce of the Performance Course and his staff once again did an outstanding job during the testing component. Outstanding talent was on hand from all over the region and even from others areas of the state.

On the offensive ball the strength was certainly at QB where three players stood out from the rest. 2013 QB Richard Lagow of Plano measured in at 6-foot-5, 193, along with his impressive measurables, Lagow showed outstanding arm strength as well. He's likely the guy to take over the Wildcats offense in 2011.

McKinney 2013 QB Robert Somborn showed outstanding touch on the deep ball and after starting all season for the Lions in 2010 he'll be a guy to keep an eye on.

The Co-Offensive MVP was Manvel 2013 QB Shane McCarley, a two year starter at Fort Bend Baptist McCarley is taking his talents to Class 4A Manvel where he could really emerge. Another 2013 talent, McKinney Boyd RB Bryan Driskell measured in at 5'8 163 and showed outstanding short space quickness and ability to catch the ball. He ran for 1321 yards and ten touchdowns as a sophomore so look out for this talent in District 10-5A.

St. Mark's wide receiver John Caldwell took home the top honors for the Class of 2014. Caldwell measured in at 6'1 186 and he ran an outstanding forty yard dash time. His ability to get in and out his breaks made him a tough cover all day. Caldwell has a great upside and comes from the same program that produced receiver and Stanford commit, Ty Montgomery.

Celina brought a pair of outstanding offensive lineman to the camp as 2013 OL Jake Raulerson checked in at 6'4 232. He's got a frame that can easily hold another 50-60 pounds and he showed outstanding aggressiveness and feet. Raulerson took home overall 2013 MVP honors and has a great upside.

Raulerson's teammate, 2012 offensive lineman, Josh Baggett who transferred in from Rio Rancho, New Mexico was named top offensive lineman. Baggett checked in at 6-foot-2 , 291 pounds, he plays with a nice mean streak and has very good strength.

The talent on defense wasn't lacking either and it started with a pair of outstanding defensive ends.

One headliner of the camp was 2012 DE Jamal Palmer of McKinney Boyd. Palmer impressed all day measuring in at 6-foot-2 , 226 pounds and then he rattled off an impressive forty time. In one one drills he had some outstanding battles with Raulerson, with each player getting the better a time or two. Palmer earned overall 2012 MVP honors.

A more unknown prospect showed he's got a chance to be a sleeper recruit as Kennedale DE Kola Alli. Alli who was named defensive line MVP measured in at 6'1 206 pounds ran a 4.6 forty yard dash, had a 4.3 pro shuttle and a 37 inch vertical jump. Alli showed outstanding potential as an edge pass rusher.

At linebacker, the top standout was senior to be Ed Garcia from McKinney North, he was named co-defensive MVP along with Arlington Sam Houston senior to be Russell Perkins. Another defensive back who impressed was 2013 CB from McKinney J.J. Johnson.

Thanks to all who participated in the camp and many thanks to Coach Jeff Smith at McKinney High for the use of their beautiful indoor facility and to Geno Pierce and the staff at the Performance Course for the event partnership!
