Family atmosphere, relationship with coaches led to Alex Woods' commitment
Academics, postgraduate opportunities and a need for cornerbacks in College Park all made Maryland an attractive option for Scranton (Pa.) Lackawanna Community College three-star cornerback Alex Woods, but it wasn’t until he could get his mother on campus and get her seal of approval that the 6-foot-2, 180-pound North Carolina native decided to become the latest pledge to the Terps’ 2017 class.

Woods committed to Maryland Dec. 4 while on an official visit with his mother, who he said hit it off with the Terps coaches just as he hoped she would.
“It was my mom’s relationship with Coach [D.J.] Durkin and Coach [Pete] Lembo, that is what primarily led me to choose Maryland,” Woods told TSR. “Also, the internship opportunities and the fact that the [defensive] scheme is similar to the college I’m at now. And the fact that they need depth at cornerback right now are bringing in a decent amount of guys that can compete to play right away.
