Jalen Browder: Maryland 'a great place to live and be successful'

After watching the Terps handle Michigan State while officially visiting College Park on Saturday, Dallas (Ga.) East Paulding three-star athlete Jalen Browder took a night to sleep on it and then became the 19th recruit in the 2017 class to commit to Maryland.

“I chose Maryland because it's a great place to live and be successful,” Browder told TSR. “The coaches and staff are really great; they are just good people who made it feel like my home. It was really the players and coaches. They are all real people and kept it real with me.”

The 6-foot-2, 190-pound Georgia native is being recruited primarily as a wide receiver by Maryland, but can also play defensive back. He has a good build and speed for either position, but Browder said the Terps coaches prefer him as a slot receiver.

Browder becomes the fourth wideout to pledge to Maryland’s 2017 class, and third from the Peach State, joining Sean Nelson and Carlos Carriere.

Browder said the reaction from the entire Maryland coaching staff when he told them he wanted to be a Terp was that of sheer excitement.

“Their reaction was amazing,” Browder said.

His relationship with the Terps coaches, his position coach Chris Beatty in particular, was also a major factor in his commitment to Maryland.

“My relationship with Coach Beatty played a big role [in my decision],” Browder said. “He was with me through it all. We have a good relationship already.”

With Browder in the fold, the Terps still have their eye on another Georgia wideout in Roswell three-star Jayden Comma, who is set to announce his decision on Nov. 4.

Browder is the No. 76-ranked player in the state of Georgia and the No. 58-ranked athlete nationally by Rivals.
