Maryland took another step toward solidifying its control of recruiting in the DMV on Dec. 1 when Greenbelt (Md.) Eleanor Roosevelt three-star defensive end Lawtez Rogers committed to the Terps’ 2017 class on his birthday.

The 6-foot-4, 245-pound pass rusher chose the Terps over offers from Louisville, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Syracuse, Wake Forest and more. Rogers has an official visit to College Park scheduled for Dec. 9 and he told TSR that his recruitment is officially shut down.

“I love everything about Maryland,” Rogers said. “It’s a great school, a great atmosphere. I can see myself going there and think it’s the right place for me.”

Terps defensive backs coach and DMV-area recruiter, Aazaar Abdul-Rahim, visited Rogers at Eleanor Roosevelt on Nov. 30 and was the first Maryland coach to receive the news from the local prospect. Rogers added that a major factor in his decision to commit to Maryland was his close bond with Abdul-Rahim.
