Over the summer, it was cornerback JC Jackson that made the transition from the West Coast junior college to the nation’s capital. This time around, it’s linebacker Nick Underwood, who committed to Maryland Dec. 13 and will sign Dec. 16 before enrolling early at the university in January.

The 6-foot-2, 230-pound Oregon native prepped at Lake Oswego Senior (Ore.) and was committed to play football at Air Force before deciding to take the JUCO route to improve his stock for Power Five programs.

Then in November, Terps quality control coach Brawley Evans reached out to Underwood on Twitter and subsequently put him in touch with Maryland defensive coordinator Andy Buh and linebackers coach Matt Barnes, who set up an official visit for Underwood Dec. 8-10.

While on his trip to College Park with his parents, Underwood picked up his Terps offers from head coach D.J. Durkin, and although he admits he considered committing right there on the spot, he decided to still take his planned official visit to Washington State, which was also that weekend, before pledging to Maryland a few days later.
