Three-star OT Tyran Hunt makes pledge to Terps

The Terps picked up their third commit from bordering Virginia in a matter of hours Sunday night when Courtland (Va.) Southampton three-star offensive tackle Tyran Hunt announced his pledge to Maryland on Twitter, joining Bishop Sullivan twins Brandon and Breyon Gaddy.

Hunt chose the Terps over in-state Virginia and Syracuse, both of the ACC.

“After the long process, coming down to it, I made the decision that’s best for me and my family,” said Hunt. “I’m looking well ahead beyond just four years, but the next forty years. This will be a great opportunity of advancement, whether I shoot to go to the NFL or do just anything, it’s a great program. And as you can see from the great recruiting class, it’s a program on the rise and something I’m definitely looking forward to and something I feel positive about doing.”

Terps defensive line coach--and former Virginia head coach--Mike London was the lead recruiter for Hunt, but offensive line coach Dave Borbely--who also previously coached at Virginia--also played a large role in securing a commitment.

“Coach London is my recruiting coach for this area,” Hunt said. “And sometime in the middle of that, Coach Borbely, the offensive line coach; he and I made a connection and we started to build a relationship and he affected the whole recruiting process. But both definitely played a big role in the recruiting process and shared contact.”

The 6-foot-6, 270-pound tackle took an official visit to Maryland in November, taking in a home football game, and was excited about what he saw.

“When I went up to Maryland, it was great,” said Hunt. “Being in the atmosphere and seeing everything play out, it was great. I loved what they showed to me as far as education and what they plan to do in the upcoming years, it was definitely something that excited me.”

Hunt is the No. 84-ranked offensive tackle nationally and the No. 30-ranked player in the state of Virginia by Rivals.
