The Terps landed their first basketball commitment of the 2017 class Oct. 2 in Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy four-star power forward Bruno Fernando.

The 6-foot-10, 225-pound Angola native committed to Maryland while on an unofficial visit to College Park on Sunday. But Fernando’s trip got started by taking in the Terps’ Homecoming football game on Saturday in which Maryland defeated Purdue 50-7.

While football is not his forte, Fernando told TSR it was still great to see the Terps fans support for their team and that the Maryland coaches and players made him feel right at home.

“I was talking to Coach [Mark] Turgeon and he came down [to Florida] to see me and I got to spend some time with him, and then we planned a visit for this [past] weekend and I got to see the school and be around the players,” Fernando said. “It was a pretty cool experience. I enjoyed being there.
