Maryland commit Jalen Smith named a McDonald's All-American

Baltimore (Md.) Mount St. Joseph five-star power forward Jalen Smith has been named to the 24-man McDonald's All-American Game roster, it was announced Tuesday afternoon.

Smith becomes the fourth McDonald's All-American to commit to Maryland under current head coach Mark Turgeon, joining Melo Trimble, Diamond Stone and Duke transfer Rasheed Sulaimon.

The 6-foot-9, 205-pound Smith was named Maryland Gatorade Player of the Year as a junior after leading the Gaels to MIAA A and Baltimore Catholic League titles.

This season the Gaels are 16-3, having most recently defeated nationally ranked Ranney School at the Spalding HoopHall Classic by a score of 71-48. Smith led his team with 27 points, 9 rebounds and three blocks.

Smith is currently the No. 27-ranked prospect nationally by Rivals and is part of a nationally ranked three-man recruiting class that includes four-star wing Aaron Wiggins and four-star combo guard Eric Ayala.
