Fernando committed to Maryland while on an official visit to College Park.

Originally committed to SMU as a member of their 2016 class, Fernando reclassified to the Class of 2017 and transferred from Montverde to IMG Academy for the current academic year.

Maryland head coach Mark Turgeon, along with assistant Dustin Clark, made the trek down to Florida Sept. 27 to watch Fernando workout. Turgeon and Clark worked quickly to get Fernando on campus for an official visit during the Terps' Homecoming, which the 6-foot-10 forward enjoyed.

With Fernando, the Terps fill one of their biggest needs at the power forward spot. His high motor, ability to defend on the blocks as well as face up offensively will be a welcomed addition for Maryland.

Along with Fernando, the Terps also hosted one of their top guard targets for 2017 in four-star Baltimore product Darryl Morsell, who was also on an official visit.
