Three-star Florida RB Laderrien Wilson commits to Maryland

Osceola (Fla.) three-star running back and former Virginia commit Laderrien Wilson became the latest member of Maryland’s 2016 recruiting class during an in-home visit from Terps head coach D.J. Durkin and wide receivers coach Chris Beatty Jan. 20.

Wilson told TSR that his commitment to Maryland was based upon his official visit to College Park the weekend of Jan. 15.

“It all came down to my visit,” Wilson said. “I wanted to check out the place before I go there and I liked it a lot. I felt like I could be a part of something big there.”

Wilson said Durkin and Beatty were “excited” by the news and that Maryland’s new coaching staff in general also played a major factor in his decision.

“They were a group of guys that all knew what they were talking about and they all had good backgrounds,” Wilson said.

During their time with Wilson and his family, the Terps coaches also discussed Wilson’s future at Maryland.

“We talked about getting back up on campus and about how they’re going to treat me there and how it’s just going to be me and them up there,” Wilson said. “I’m going to come back to Florida it’s just not going to be as often. And we talked about how I need to grow on my own and become a grown man by myself without my parents there.”

Now that he’s committed to the Terps, Wilson can’t wait to get on campus and get to work.

“I’m looking forward to playing in the stadium, wearing the stuff that they wear and just being a part of that team,” Wilson said. “We’re going to be winning a lot more games now. I’m not going to let them down.”
