MONTVALE, N.J. -- Maryland linebackers coach Matt Barnes was at Wayne (N.J.) De Paul Catholic earlier this month to scout three-star linebacker Vinny DePalma, but while there also happened to identify a 2019 signal caller for the Terps to target in dual-threat quarterback Ta’Quan Roberson.

The 6-foot, 185-pound Roberson already held offers from Kentucky, North Carolina, Rutgers and Virginia Tech, but after Barnes brought his talent to Terps offensive coordinator Walt Bell’s attention, Maryland became the latest program to ante up by extending an offer May 11.
