A one-time Michigan pledge, Richardson opened his recruitment back up on Jan. 21 after having been committed to head coach Jim Harbaugh and the Wolverines since last summer.

The 6-foot, 168-pound Richardson was first discovered by now-Maryland head coach DJ Durkin during a summer satellite camp in south Florida. He was offered a scholarship and committed to Michigan in early June.

But Richardson tore his ACL during his high school team's spring game last May, choosing to play through the injury at the camp. Richardson had surgery to repair his ACL on July 6, missing his entire senior season.

Richardson will begin classes at Maryland on Jan. 28.
