Former University of North Carolina quarterback Caleb Henderson left the Tar Heels program Aug. 19 after spending two years with the team and has now decided to transfer to Maryland, where he will be eligible for the 2017 season.
The 6-foot-3, 215-pound Henderson was expected to compete for the backup quarterback position in Chapel Hill this season before a poor performance in North Carolina’s spring game.
Henderson was a Rivals four-star recruit out of Burke (Va.) Lake Braddock--the same high school as Terps 2017 three-star tight end commit Andrew Park. The Virginia native adds much-needed depth for Maryland under center and will likely compete with 2017 four-star quarterback pledge Kasim Hill for the starting role next season.
Henderson also happens to train with the same quarterback coach as the St. John’s College (D.C.) signal caller, Chris Baucia, so it is likely that he and Hill are already familiar with one another.
The Terps hosted Henderson on campus Aug. 20 for their fall camp scrimmage.
