Maryland senior guard Jahmir Young was named to the Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year Preseason Watch List, the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame announced on Monday.

Young is one of 20 guards to be named to the watch list and one of only three from the Big Ten, along with Penn State's Ace Baldwin and Northwestern's Boo Buie.

Young becomes the fourth Terrapin guard to be named to the Cousy watch list, joining former Terps Greivis Vasquez, Melo Trimble and Anthony Cowan Jr. Vasquez won the award in 2010.

The Terps' leading scorer a season ago, Young earned second-team All-Big Ten honors as he helped Maryland reach the second round of the NCAA Tournament under first-year head coach Kevin Willard.

Young has already racked up numerous honors ahead of the upcoming season, including being named a preseason All-American by Lindy's Sports and the Blue Ribbon College Basketball Yearbook.

The award, now in it's 21st year and named after former Boston Celtics Hall of Fame point guard Bob Cousy, is presented annually to the nation's top collegiate point guard.

"The point guards that have been named to the 2024 Bob Cousy Award Watch List truly embody the skills and characteristics that made Bob Cousy the 'Houdini of the Hardwood,'" said John L. Doleva, President and CEO of the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. "We look forward to watching their leadership and play-making abilities take center stage and working alongside Bob Cousy and the selection committee to narrow down the watch list throughout the season."

The 20-person preseason watch list will be shortened to 10 in late January, before being narrowed down to a final five in late February. The winner will be selected in March.

Young and the Terps open the 2023-2024 season Nov. 7 when they host Mount St. Mary's at Xfinity Center. Tip time is slated for 7 p.m.
