Local three-star OL Johnny Jordan commits to Maryland

With its second commitment in as many days, Maryland has added Gonzaga (Washington, D.C.) three-star center Johnny Jordan to its 2017 class as the Terps continue to lock up the best talent the DMV has to offer.

The 6-foot-3, 290-pound Jordan made his decision while attending a recruiting cookout in College Park July 30 and he now becomes the second offensive lineman in his class to join the Terps along with fellow local recruit Jordan McNair. Maryland’s 2017 class now stands at 13 commits.

Jordan has visited College Park several times before today. His most recent trip to Maryland was in the middle of June and he was joined by his entire family for a campus tour.

During his June visit, Jordan observed a camp that the Terps were holding and he told TSR that getting to see Maryland offensive line coach Dave Borbely work with other blockers was the highlight of his trip.

“It was good to see coach Borbely and how he interacts with the offensive lineman and getting to see the campus,” Jordan said.

Jordan also spent time with head coach D.J. Durkin and offensive coordinator Walt Bell in June and said they both praised his athleticism for an offensive lineman and said he should fit perfectly into the Terps’ up-tempo scheme.

Boston College, Pitt, Syracuse, Virginia and Virginia Tech were all schools that were thought to be in contention for Jordan’s services up until the very end, but ultimately the hometown team won out for the physical interior lineman. Jordan also held offers from Kentucky, Louisville, North Carolina and others.
