Maryland added their highest ranked commit in the 2022 class on Sunday, when Rivals100 four-star wide receiver Shaleak Knotts of Monroe, N.C. announced his intentions to play for the Terps.

Knotts chose the Terps over finalists North Carolina and Tennessee. He also took an official visit to Georgia back in June while accumulating over 20 offers in total.

The 6-foot-2, 187-pounder officially visited Tennessee the week of June 18 before taking an official visit to Maryland a week later. Knotts also visited College Park the first weekend of June when prospects were first allowed back on college campuses following an extended dead period due to COVID. During his initial visit, Knotts got the chance to bond with quarterback commit AJ Swann. Maryland offered Knotts back on March 18.

A two-sport standout in football and basketball, Knotts also ran track as a freshman in high school.

Knotts had 34 catches for 607 yards and seven touchdowns this past spring as a junior. The two-way standout also recorded 55 tackles and three interceptions at safety. For his career, he’s caught 144 passes for 2,370 yards and 31 touchdowns during his three years of high school football.

On the hardwood, Knotts is a sharp-shooting wing who averaged 17.4 points, 7.3 rebounds, 1.3 assists, and 2.3 steals during his junior basketball season.

Locksley has had success over the years landing highly rated wideouts at Maryland, including current NFL star Stefon Diggs and former Rivals five-star and current Terps sophomore, Rakim Jarrett.

Knotts is the 13th member of the Terps’ 2022 class and the third wideout, joining Camden (N.J.) Woodrow Wilson four-star Amari Clark and Tallahassee (Fla.) Lincoln three-star Perry Fisher.
