Maryland's Melo Trimble named preseason All-American by Blue Ribbon

Maryland junior point guard Melo Trimble has been named a preseason first-team All-American by Blue Ribbon, a tweet of their college basketball yearbook cover revealed on Wednesday.

Trimble, a two-time All-Big Ten selection, led the Terps in points (14.8 ppg), assists (4.9 apg), free throw percentage (.868) and steals (44) last season as a sophomore.

The Upper Marlboro, Md. native initially declared for the NBA Draft in April, participating in the draft combine and working out for multiple teams, but withdrew his name just hours before the final deadline for underclassmen to pull out and and retain their college eligibility.

With four starters from last season's Sweet Sixteen team now playing professionally, the return of Trimble was key for Maryland as they add a number of new pieces in 2016-2017, including heralded freshman point guard Anthony Cowan. The Terps are 55-16 in Trimble's two seasons at Maryland, including a pair of NCAA Tournament births.

Trimble is joined on the Blue Ribbon All-American team by Indiana's Thomas Bryant and Wisconsin's Nigel Hayes, giving the Big Ten conference three of the five selections. California's Ivan Rabb and Duke's Grayson Allen round out the first team.
