Fairfax (Va.) Paul VI four-star wing Brandon Slater was already one of the Terps’ top targets for the 2018 class, but the local prospect’s stock is sure to only rise if he continues to play like he did Jan. 16 in front of Maryland coaches.

Slater was just the Panthers’ fifth-leading scorer with 8.6 points per game when Maryland first started to recruit him last season as a sophomore, but he has been highly regarded by head coach Mark Turgeon and his staff for having solid length and athleticism for his position.

Many intangibles were already in place for Slater, but after pairing those with his high basketball IQ and strong work ethic over the last year, he’s ready to prove that he can take over a game like he did in a WCAC showdown with Gonzaga.

With Turgeon and assistant coach Dustin Clark looking on as Slater competed against the region’s top-ranked prep team according to The Washington Post, the 6-foot-6, 175-pound sharp shooter went for a career-high 34 points (13-for-19 FGs, 4-for-7 from three) to help lead Paul VI to an 83-73 victory.

Slater not only scored efficiently against Gonzaga, he also stuffed the stat sheet by chipping in 10 rebounds, five assists, four blocks and two steals.
