Maryland is pretty set in the backfield moving forward, including the addition of North Carolina three-star running back Javon Leake in the 2017 class, but the Terps are back in the Tar Heel State looking at a runner that could perhaps help them elsewhere.

Raleigh (N.C.) Sanderson 2018 three-star prospect Trent Pennix is listed by Rivals as a running back but is considered by many to be a versatile athlete that can play several positions on both sides of the ball. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound recruit currently holds offers from Boston College, East Carolina, Louisville, Marshall, Maryland, Minnesota, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest and others, and while most of those programs are looking at him for offense, Terps special teams coach and Pennix’s area recruiter Pete Lembo has been discussing the other side of the ball with him since Maryland anted up Feb. 19.
